XP Visual Effects: RocketDock and ÜberIcon

By ryan | November 29, 2008

I’ve noticed a lot of searches recently for the cool mac OS like dock bar called Rocketdock and the cool Uber Icon effect. I’ll explain both and provide links below. Both of these are tiny standalone free applications included in the Vista Inspirat Bricopack, which i described back in Breath Life into XP by adding Usability and Style.  RocketDock is an awesome, customizable application launcher that gives your desktop a MacOSX feel. ÜberIcon is a tiny application that adds a little eye candy to when you click your icons. For the minimalists out there, this is not for you, but who doesn’t like a little pizzaz when doing your day to day activities on the PC. Both of these come in the Vista Inspirat Bricopack, but can also be downloaded and used seperately for a total custom look you might be shooting for. Below is some direct info to their respective sites and the links to get it yourself. Enjoy!

P.S. I’m not affiliated with these people at all, they just made some sweet applications! :-)

RocketDock

From the official website:

RocketDock is a smoothly animated, alpha blended application launcher. It provides a nice clean interface to drop shortcuts on for easy access and organization. With each item completely customizable there is no end to what you can add and launch from the dock.

Now with added Taskbar support your minimized windows can appear as icons on the dock. This allows for better productivity and accessibility.

Here is a video of it in action. To download RocketDock

ÜberIcon

From their site, ubericon.com:

ÜberIcon creates a more customizable atmosphere on your desktop by extending Windows to perform new effects when you launch your icons and folders. The effects are plugin-based to give you control over the look and feel. The name translates to “OverIcon” which will begin to make sense from the moment you see your first icon fly towards you. It’s freeware, so what are you waiting for? Try it out!
